Designed during the wacky 1960s, the VOX Telstar soon became known for its egg-shaped bass drum. Divided by a panel on the inside, separate kick pedals would be positioned at either end of the bottom rim to produce different bass drum tones.
If a unique, egg-shaped bass drum wasn't enough, then just wait until you see the Telstar 2020's stunning, chrome-meets-crocodile finish. Each drum is coated with a scaly, metallic effect that combines the vintage aesthetic of the original VOX drums with a modern, 21st century sheen.
Dense and durable by nature, Birch is one of the more aggressive, bright sounding woods widely used for drum shells. Its enhanced low and high end frequencies offer a good balance of tone and crispness.
Separated by an internal chamber, placing your kick pedal to either the left or right side of the bass drum will determine its tone. The larger, right side of the drum produces fuller, warmer sounds, while the smaller, left side creates tighter, crisper sounds. The chamber ensures that each side resonates separately, so you could even use two kick pedals simultaneously to fully utilise the Telstar 2020's tonal range.
One rack tom and one floor tom - the classic configuration. If it's good enough for Buddy Rich, then it's good enough for you. That's right, the virtuoso Jazz drummer and bandleader himself endorsed VOX in the late 1960s.
