Eastern black cherry is a medium density wood, offering a beefy, musical tone when tuned low, and a crisp and responsive tone when tuned high.
Stave shells consist of vertically oriented blocks that are bevelled and glued to create a cylinder. This allows the grain to run in its natural direction to provide the perfect aesthetic for any natural finish drum. Not only does this construction improve the aesthetics of the drum, it also helps provide the best possible sound. Stave shells are more resonant that ply shells and provide fewer overtones for a more direct, accurate tone. These shells are also impressively loud, making them perfect for heavier styles.
