Superior Shell Technology

To deliver the Masterworks sound, you need superior drums with the most meticulous design. The Superior Shell Technology is a proprietary technique involving suturing the maple wood plies with Pearl’s AcoustaGlue. The plies are then baked in high temperature with 1000 PSI of hydraulic pressure to produce indestructible shells that exhibit rich, thunderous tones and outstanding resonance.

Standard 45-degree bearing edge offers the perfect sound

The Pearl Masterworks 14 x 6'' Snare Drum includes a 45-degree bearing edge. This is Pearl’s original bearing edge, providing the perfect blend of attack, warmth, and sustain through minimal head contact.

A perfect blend of maple and mahogany

Maple offers a great balance of tone, attack and body. Its rich, lustrous lows and evenly balanced mid and high frequencies have made it the preferred hardwood, boasting its wide sonic range and acoustic balance.

Mahogany provides a more deep, powerful punch with a dark and elegant tone. Mahogany is a relatively soft hardwood, offering a dramatic boost in lower frequencies. This bass boost effect is more likely due to its loosely packed cellulose network that creates a natural resonator for powerful lower frequencies.

When mixed, these materials create a brilliant mixture of attack, warmth and power across all dynamic and tuning ranges.

Careful shell design for maximum quality

First, a premium hardwood is hand selected and formed into a precise 2-ply layer. Pearl’s trademarked overlapping seam, Scarf Joint Seams, are added to ensure a perfect airtight fit to each layer. The wood plies are then saturated with Pearl’s exclusive adhesive – AcoustaGlue which permeates every pore to the exact consistency of the wood for optimum resonance. During this process, the plies are formed in high temperature molds with 1000 PSI of hydraulic pressure. Finally, for optimal resonance, strength and tonal quality – all of the shells are tested for flatness and roundness before drilling and assembly to assure supreme tuning.

Premium shell with superior hardware

The light and rigid design of the 1.6mm Fat Tone hoops increase the resonance and tuning stability of the drum. The Single Swivel Lugs provide less direct shell contact than any other Pearl lug. The Single Swivel Lugs are the lightest lug and feature a pivoting brass tension casing that guarantees even tuning and reduced resistance to shell vibration.
