Ramon Santamaria was a pioneer in modern Latin jazz and was without a doubt one of the most respected conga players ever. In the 1950’s, he laid down the foundations for an outstanding career in percussion with his band ‘Black Cuban Diamonds’. Ramon recorded a number of legendary percussion albums, including ‘’Mongo in Havana’’ and ‘’Bembe y Nuestro Hombre En La Habana’’.
In February 2003, Mongo Santamaria died at the age of 85 at the Baptist Hospital in Miami USA. These Artist Series congas are made with great appreciation and respect in the honour of Ramon and his life’s work.
