Hybrid shell construction optimises performance

The shells are constructed using 11-ply Jatoba, Kapur and North American maple. By opting for this hybrid shell construction, Yamaha has achieved the strength from the hardwood, the warmth from the medium wood and the excellent responses from the more flexible maple. These woods are layered to be progressively harder from the centre of the shell to the outside. This arrangement helps to optimise the sonic qualities, while maximising the resonance of each shell.

YESS mounting system allows the toms to sing

An updated YESS Shell Mount system (Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System) supports the drum at the top and bottom and securely mounts the tom bracket onto the shell using a 3-piece fastening system. This means that the drum is completely isolated and does not touch any other part of the kit to allow it to sing through with maximum sustain. With the YESS system, you can achieve much clearer drum tones, without having to put up with unwanted dampening or rattling sounds.

Detachable hook lugs offer easy head replacements

These hook lugs are used to secure the drumhead to the shell of the drum, and they have a great effect on the tonal impact of the drum.

The hook lugs used on the Yamaha PHX Shell Pack are detachable which make replacing your drumheads quick and easy. For this kit, Yamaha revamped the hook lugs, creating a new shape and style rather than the conventional hook lugs. This has a phenomenal effect on the sound while maintaining the detachable mechanism for convenience.

Yamaha's 30-degree bearing edges provide added punch

Yamaha's 30-degree bearing edges allow vibrations to transfer more efficiently via increased contact points for more responsive, resonant tones. They also increase volume and punch, without adding harsh overtones to the sound. This controlled punch delivers a blend of pre-EQ'd clarity and tonal warmth. The 30-degree bearing edges also allow the drum heads to sit flatter and make better contact with the shell. This results in a stronger, deeper fundamental pitch, effortless and consistent tuning and a significantly expanded tuning range.
